The CARE Center is excited to transition from the 5K world and host the I Race Because I CARE Duathlon! The duathlon will consist of a 2 mile walk/run, a 10 mile bike ride and another 2 mile walk/run and is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2020. We will walk/run/ride a sanctioned course in Gurley, next door to the Madison County Elementary School. Packet pick-up will be at Fleet Feet in Jones Valley on Friday, April 24th from 10AM-6PM.
The goal for this race is to raise at least $15,000 for The CARE Center’s Fuel Their Hunger to Learn Initiative which provides resources to local schools, enrichment, mentoring and academic support to local school children and a backpack program which provides food security to school children over the weekend and long breaks.

Proceed onto the run course and pay close attention to course markings and volunteers. The first 2 mile run of the race takes place on smooth blacktop roads that are flat and mostly shaded. Safety is the most critical element of this race. Always be aware of moving traffic. There may be some uneven running surfaces along the course. Therefore, it is good practice to focus on your footing. There will be one water station on the course and another at the transition area.
TRANSITION TO BIKE
Team members finishing the run portion should proceed to the team area where your Team bicycle is racked and tag up with your waiting bike team mate. Individual athletes will run to your rack location, transition to your bike and WALK your bicycle to the “BIKE OUT” exit area. NO RIDING PERMITTED. **HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE BIKE PORTION OF THIS RACE.** Take note of your location in the transition area, you don’t want to be searching for your rack location when you return. The Transition area is only open to individual participants and team members. The bike portion of the race takes you through beautiful back country roads on a fairly fast course with a few rolling hills and slight inclines.
TRANSITION TO RUN
Dismount from your bike and re-enter the Transition area thru the “BIKE IN” area. NO RIDING IN TRANSITION. Team members should proceed to the team area where you will rack your bicycle and tag up with your waiting RUN team mate. Individual athletes proceed to your rack location and transition for the run. Be observant of bicycle traffic in the Transition area, the Transition area will be very busy during this time. Race volunteers will direct you as you exit thru the designated “RUN OUT” area. The transition area is only open to individual participants and team members. Proceed onto the same run course from the previous run being aware of moving traffic and any uneven pavement. There will be one water station on the course and another at the finish area. The race concludes with the completion of the second run and all timing will be recorded at the “FINISH” line.
After finishing the race, grab water to rehydrate and snacks donated by our wonderful sponsors. Congratulations for finishing the race! Awards will be presented as soon as possible after the last finisher has crossed the finish line. Awards will also be available for pickup at Fleet Feet Sports beginning on Monday after the race.
